38th Macao International Music Festival presents “Brazilian Body Beats” at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium

MACAU, October 6 - The opening ceremony of the show “Brazilian Body Beats”, by the group Barbatuques, integrated in the 38th Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), was held on 6 October at the lobby of the Macao Cultural Centre. This programme is supported by the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao Special Administrative Region and by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Federative Republic of Brazil. The Brazilian group Barbatuques uses the bodies as instruments to present an inventive performance as well as improvisation and interaction on stage.

The opening ceremony was officiated by the Acting Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao SAR, Cheng Lei; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Leong Wai Man; the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Teledifusão de Macau, S.A., Lo Song Man; the Vice President of Air Macau Company Limited, Liu Jun; the Vice President of Corporate Communications and Community Affairs of Sands China, Ltd., Catherine Kong; the Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Mok Chi Hang; and the representative of the Brazilian group Barbatuques, Taís Balieiro. The President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Leong Wai Man, referred in her speech that both China and Brazil have a long history, and a vibrant civilizational and cultural richness. 2026 marks the China-Brazil Cultural Year, with the aim of deepening cultural ties, promoting bilateral exchanges and enhancing bonds among peoples. The Brazilian group Barbatuques was invited to make its debut at the Macao International Music Festival, fully leveraging Macao as a “precise interlocutor” between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries.

The Lisboa String Trio and Sofia Vitória will present the concert “Concrete Songs and Other Stories” on 23 October, at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Small Auditorium, blending classical music with the spontaneity of jazz and world sonorities, crossing the Portuguese guitar, the double bass, the sitar and a captivating female voice in a concert that shows the authentic charm of Portuguese culture.

In addition, a series of programmes of the “Floating Notes Across the City” activities will be held successively in order to further bring cultural resources into the community and promote the concept of “Where Culture Flourishes, Happiness Happens”. This year’s activities include “Street Eco-Percussion” and “Piano Around Town” across various districts from 10 October to 22 November. Members of the public are welcome to participate and share the beauty of music.
